An 86-year-old Malden woman died Monday after she was hit by an SUV that crashed through the door of an auto body shop, according to the Middlesex County district attorney’s office.
She was hit on Hunting Street near Salem Street at around 1:38 p.m. Police say the driver, a man in his 20s, crashed backwards through the garage and traveled across the street before hitting the woman on the sidewalk.
The victim was pronounced dead on scene, and the driver was brought to an area hospital. Police are investigating what caused the SUV to speed out of the auto shop. The identity of the woman is currently being withheld and the status of the driver is unknown.
