CARSMART: Chevrolet Traverse is iconic 7-passenger people moving machine - The Saratogian

When it comes to moving people, there are all kinds of options in the large SUV market. From economy class to the premium luxury SUV category, the options are endless.

In Grasso’s Garage this week, Chevrolet wants a slice of the review pie, with its mid-priced, people mover, the Chevrolet Traverse. Starting with six different model options beginning at just under $35,000, the Traverse tops out with our High Country tester which came in at just under $55,000. For basic people moving and with realistic pricing, the Traverse might just be the way to travel.

A well-needed 3.6-liter, V-6 engine producing 310 horsepower and 266 lb.-ft. of torque is the only motor option for the Traverse. Including stop/start technology, the Traverse includes a nine-speed automatic transmission as well. There are six exterior colors, of which two are premium and have an additional cost. Our Black Cherry Metallic exterior was exceptionally nice while the standard interior was Jet Black on our High Country model.

Interior-wise, this is iconic Chevrolet. Standard second-row captain chairs and normal Chevrolet-like features. A Chevrolet Infotainment 3 Plus System with Navigation and 8” touchscreen was present and in typical Chevrolet fashion, very easy to use. The infotainment screen also has a sliding feature which slides up granting access to a hidden storage compartment, similar to my 2017 Corvette ZO6.

Seating in the Traverse was very comfortable and very basic. Seating for all seven passengers was comfortable and spacious while the “no-frills, no-thrills” interior did its job. Heated steering wheel, heated and ventilated front seats were also standard on the High Country. With Chevrolet Assist standard on all trims now, safety is just another reason why the Traverse is serious in this market. A panoramic roof was also standard and a nicely laid out feature.

We did miss the heads up display on the Traverse and would be a nice addition for the driver.

Riding on 20” wheels, the Traverse has its purpose and does it well. It meets the needs of families to move members around and do so in comfortable fashion. LED lights abound and did we mention the color; yes I know I did, but it was very appealing to the eye.

The Traverse is basic people moving to a T. Although the market for this vehicle is wrapped around families looking for economical rides around town, it really brings a lot to the table in the storage conversation as well. Moving a kid to college, apartment to apartment, or even a trip to the off-grid cabin, the Traverse is really a great option for the price.

Grasso’s Garage is here for you! Are you in the market for a new car? I would be happy to provide my honest input. All you have to do is email me: marc.grasso@bostonherald.com.
