One of my fondest childhood memories is waking up at the crack of dawn to watch an episode of the animated Scooby Doo, Where Are You! before I went to school. It’s clear the show meant a lot to me, given that I even as a little girl I slept like a bear and did not like to wake up.

While I haven’t watched the cartoon Scooby Doo in years, I was absolutely delighted when I saw the show pop up in my Instagram feed once more this week. The Scooby news was (thank God) not related to a reboot, but rather something far more unexpected: a listing of the legendary Mystery Machine on Airbnb.

I am a woman who demands the comfort of a nice bed, but even I have to admit that staying in Shaggy and Scooby’s home is a mighty cool idea. Airbnb apparently thought along the same lines, which is why it partnered with Warner Bros. to set up the Mystery Machine as a listing for the 20th anniversary of Raja Gosnell’s 2002 live action Scooby-Doo.

According to Airbnb, the Mystery Machine camper will be parked along the Southern California coastline this summer for three sets of two guests from June 24-26. They will be hosted by Shaggy himself, also known as actor Matthew Lillard, who played Scooby’s best friend in the 2002 film.

This is the first time in history that the iconic Mystery Machine has been open for overnight stays, Airbnb stated. In addition, although this is happening in 2022, the camper will take fans back to 2002. It will include the latest Sugar Ray album on a portable CD player — haven’t thought about one of those in years — a lava lamp, and Shaggy’s puka shell necklace.

Even though this is the first time the Mystery Machine has been open to the public, it makes sense that Lillard has set the booking price at a low $20 per night. He needs the good reviews. (Airbnb explains that guests are responsible for paying for their own trip to and from the camper in California.)

Besides the camper itself, guests will have access to a lounge seating area and a hammock, which are must-haves for camper life, let’s be honest.

As any loyal Scooby fan knows, our favorite Great Dane and his BFF were always eating, a tradition Lillard respects in his Mystery Machine Airbnb listing. Guests chosen to stay in the camper will receive all you can eat snacks and get to pick from Shaggy and Scooby’s favorite foods for dinner, which include hot dogs and hamburgers.

A manila folder with the words "Case Closed" is shown along with a magnifying glass and a flashlight.

Airbnb and Warner Bros’ collaboration features a movie to go along with the stay in the set piece. The three lucky guest groups will be treated to a screening of the live action Scooby-Doo and to complementary popcorn, movie candy, and Scooby Snacks. Airbnb is even providing mystery games so that folks can put their investigative skills to work.

Lillard only offered up the camper for three nights, which in all likelihood are now booked. However, fingers crossed the company and Warner Bros. open it again sometime.
