JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Jacksonville International Airport is taking steps to help make your trip as smooth as possible this holiday weekend, which includes some new tech that is there to greet you at TSA checkpoints.
”More people are traveling. This is a holiday weekend,” said TSA spokesperson Sari Koshetz, referring to the Labor Day weekend ahead.

Compared to this time last year, Jacksonville International Airport has seen a nearly 32% jump in passengers.
So it’s trying to help folks move along quicker, including bringing in new technology.
JIA now has a machine called the checkpoint property screening system (CPSS).
What makes it unlike any other machine in the country is that it combines automated screening lanes (which can load up to four bins at the same time), and a 3D X-ray machine where TSA agents can view contents inside luggage, and make sure they are safe for travel.

This is the first time both components have been combined in a pre-integrated machine, whereas before components were purchased separately, and a third vendor would have to manually integrate these components.
”It was very fast and efficient,” said traveler Larisa Turjacanin, who put her items through the CPSS machine.
But the airport needs your help too.
It may seem obvious not to bring weapons, explosives, or incendiaries past these checkpoint lines.

″Some of those items you can’t even have in your checked bag,” Koshetz explained.
But alas, if everyone followed directions, JIA’s collection of confiscated items wouldn’t exist. It includes things like grenades and knives.
To this day, TSA has stopped 45 guns at JIA’s checkpoints, including replicas and airsoft guns.
“You don’t want someone holding that up in the cabin and frightening other passengers,” Koshetz pointed out.
The training that these agents have, combined with new tech, is there to catch anything illicit. So, you can help by leaving anything prohibited at home.”It slows down the process for everyone,” Koshetz emphasized.
That way, TSA agents can focus on promptly getting you and your fellow travelers to your next destination.
