Eau Claire (WQOW)- Car dealerships are among the countless businesses facing financial losses during this time.

Dealerships are currently open for business, but the general manager of sales at Eau Claire Ford said sales are down roughly 30% due to the pandemic. He said even though overall sales are down, it hasn't had much of an impact on the types of vehicles people are buying. He said about half of their sales are new cars, while the other half are used.

"We're pretty happy with what we've been able to do with the times," said General Manager of Sales Benjamin Lindberg. "We expected [sales] to go down. We're pretty happy with how we've kind of come together as a team and got through the past couple weeks, months, and going forward."

Lindberg said the biggest challenge during this time has been keeping customers and employees safe. People can still test drive cars, but are no longer accompanied by an employee.

In addition to using distancing and disinfecting practices, he said more of the sales process is happening remotely, often obtaining trade in values and payment information before customers arrive at the dealership. He said they are doing whatever it takes to make customers feel safe, including dropping off cars and paperwork at their homes.
