A Rome auto shop owner has stern words for the thieves who burglarized his Erie Boulevard shop Sunday night.
“They don’t care. These people do not care,” said Vincent “Iggy” Falcone of Falcone Auto Sales.
“And the laws are not strict enough. If they’re caught, they’re in and out the same day.”
Falcone, who has run his motor vehicle dealership on Erie Boulevard West for upwards of 25 years, said thieves hit his lot sometime overnight between Sunday and Monday. Falcone said they stole the tailgate off one of his trucks, as well as a Tonneau truck bed cover.
These thefts are on top of the catalytic converter thefts he has suffered throughout the year, Falcone added.
“A thief is a thief. They’re desperate people. They’re supposed to be behind bars,” Falcone stated. “They’re driving us to a point where we want to close our businesses.”
Multiple dealerships and other businesses with vehicles on display have reported thefts in recent months, especially of catalytic converters. Rome Police have issued a warning to such locations and have said they are investigating all complaints.
Falcone noted that he believes local police agencies are doing everything in their power to try and stop the thefts from auto dealerships and repair shops in Rome, but manpower and the pandemic have already stretched law enforcement thin. Falcone said he will protect what is his.
“I will prosecute you,” Falcone told the thieves. “I’m going to protect my family and I’m going to protect my store.”
Anyone with information on auto part thefts in the local area is encouraged to call Rome Police at 315-339-7780. Anyone who sees suspicious activity at dealerships and repair shops overnight is urged to call 9-1-1.
