A federal court in Brooklyn on Friday upheld the state's COVID-19 restrictions that led to the closure of an auto dealer.
Plaza Motors had challenged the red zone restrictions, which were put in place to limit the spread of the coronavirus, that had led to layoffs and reduced income.
But U.S. Court District Court Judge William Kuntz sided with the state, pointing to the state's detailed pandemic restrictions and metrics for closing businesses and limiting gatherings.
“There are undoubtedly those who worship the automobile, but the Founding Fathers were not among their ranks,” he wrote.
The case comes after a federal court in upstate New York took an opposite track, allowing restaurants in designated orange zones to open for indoor dining.
