It's easy to pop a carton of ice cream in your freezer to slowly chip away at while you watch your nightly reality TV (yep, we're all doing it!), but if you're a soft-serve ice cream fan, it isn't easy to get that at home...until now. Introducing the ColdSnap: a device designed to make you a bowl of soft-serve ice cream with just the touch of a button.
The design of this device, which was previously spotted by Gizmodo, is probably familiar because everything from coffee to cocktails to juice is now getting the "pods" treatment. This is no different! Simply lift open the top, pop in an ice cream pod of your choice, and in about 60-90 seconds, you'll have a bowl of ice cream in the flavor of your choice. CNET gave the ice cream a try and said though the machine was noisy, the ice cream was good and was "a combination of a chocolate mousse and a soft serve."
Once you're done, there is no machine clean-up required, according to the video above. Oh, and just in case you were worried it was a one-trick pony, this machine can also make frozen yogurt, iced coffee, smoothies, slushies, and frozen cocktails with similar pods.
The pods are much larger than those you'd use to make coffee (they're more like cans actually!), but they're also shelf-stable, which means you can leave them wherever you have room. It's also worth noting the pods are made of "infinitely recyclable aluminum and may be recycled just like any aluminum beverage can."
So far, we don't know exactly where or when you'll be able to buy the machine or how much it will cost, but CNET estimated the machine could roll out in 2022 and will run you $500 and $1,000 with the pods costing around $2.50-to-$3. Gizmodo also reported that there will be a "limited beta rollout in the Boston area this summer" so if you're located near there, and this machine looks good to you, well, cheers!
