SAN FRANCISCO – Plainclothes police officers shot and injured an auto burglary suspect in San Francisco on Friday, authorities said.
The Central Station officers were conducting an auto burglary investigation about 12:50 p.m. when they found a suspect vehicle occupied by at least three people on Varney Place, near 3rd Street, the San Francisco Police Department said in a news release.
“An officer-involved shooting occurred in which a suspect was struck by gunfire,” police said.
Police said the officers provided aid to the suspect until medics arrived and took him to a hospital. The suspect’s injuries were not considered life-threatening, police said.
The suspect vehicle, along with the remaining occupants, left the scene, police said.
The shooting is being investigated by the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office Independent Investigations Bureau, the SFPD Investigative Services Division, the SFPD Internal Affairs Division and the Department of Police Accountability.
