Zimmerman and the club held their first event of the summer on Saturday, June 6, and will continue to hold each of the Summer Cruise Nights every Saturday for the remainder of the summer, minus potential hazards.
“Basically, we want to continue what we did with that COVID cruise,” Zimmerman said. “We had such a positive response from it all, afterwards everyone kept asking, ‘are we going to keep doing this?’ And, ‘when are we going to do this again?’ We pretty much decided we’re going to keep doing this every first saturday of every month. Just giving everybody something to do, get out of the house. Take your mind off everything and have fun.”
Zimmerman stated the club is trying its best to keep people seperated and maintain the six feet distance. However, their main goal is for the fans and those that are driving to enjoy themselves, while being safe and courteous to those around them.
“Everything is kinda just going as a trail and error right now,” he said. “We’ve spread the word, we let a lot of people know out there, we just asked people to basically be courteous of everyone else.”
When Zimmerman last spoke to The Press in May, he told The Press the club is primarily a Facebook club that is dedicated to bringing people together and allowing those that love cars and cruising to do what they love to do. Since then, nothing has changed.
“We’re still basically just a facebook group, we’re kind of border line a club, we don’t have any actual membership dues, there’s no real way to get into it,” Zimmerman said. “If a person is interested, in anything automotive related, if it’s just something you enjoy, you just put in a request to join the group and most cases we’ll add you.”
Zimmerman added, “We want to do whatever we can, when it comes to automotive, just to keep the hobby alive. We want to keep it fresh for the younger generation because there’s a lot of things that get lost throughout the years.”
Although the first series may not have gone as planned by the 701 Auto Enthusiasts club, due to strong weather conditions, the interest level that was brought in by the public was a strong success in itself.
“Previously (For COVID cruise) 250 people showed interest in going, and now (by Saturday) it was over 500,” Zimmerman said. “That definitely showed the interest is there, the word is getting spread a lot more, with each one we’re trying to do a little bit more advertising.”
Zimmerman and the 701 Auto Enthusiasts club are looking forward to where the road will take them throughout the summer and the new adventures that will be made along the way.
