COLUMBUS, Ind. – Some days your main tool at work is a giant fire hose and other days it is a common screwdriver. The Columbus Fire Department (CFD) was called to EL Nopal Mexican Restaurant on Jonathan Moore Pike, just after noon on Friday, in response to a report of a six-year-old with his hand stuck inside a vending machine.
Firefighters found the child with a hand and wrist completely inside the opening of a vending machine located in the restaurant’s lobby. Initial attempts made by responders to aid in removing the hand did not succeed. So, CFD devised a plan to dismantle the machine.
After a few turns of a screwdriver, the child was free from the machine without injury. The Columbus Police Department and the Columbus Regional Health Ambulance Service assisted in the effort.
