From staff reports
The Mount Olive Green Machine split a twinbill contested at the Eastern Carolina Athletic Park on Tuesday evening.
Raketown handed the Machine a 5-0 loss.
The Machine turned back the Faison 9ers by a 7-4 count.
Game 1
Nathan Joyner tossed a two-hitter allowed three first-inning runs.
Raketown added two against reliever Noah Walker.
Richard Noble paced the Machine at the plate with a double and a triple.
Game 2
Noble allowed three hits and retired five Faison batters on strikeouts in a four-inning stint. Walker earned the save in theatrical fashion. He hit the first two batters he faced and retired the next three.
Down 1-0, the Machine seized the lead in the second inning.
Caleb Gray and Justin Oakley cranked out back-to-back singles, and teammate Nate Mumford legged out an infield hit to load the sacks. Zack Heath and Thomas Weaver each drew a bases-loaded, RBI walk to put the Machine in front, 2-1.
Walker delivered a two-RBI single to extend the lead.
The 9ers rallied for a 4-4 deadlock through 3 1/2 innings.
In the Machine fourth, Noble drew a lead-off walk, stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Coates followed with an RBI knock to make it 5-4.
Walker replaced Coates and eventually reached third on a balk. Gray grounded out to short for the RBI. One inning later, Jackson Lewis walked and proceeded to steal the next three bases, including home for the 7-4 finale.
