A Bucks County man is in Lancaster County prison for illegally entering the Manheim Auto Auction, gaining access to cars on the lot, and driving them recklessly through the property on Saturday.
Matthew Mark Witherspoon, 27, of Warminster Township, was charged with felony criminal trespass and two drug-related charges, according to court documents. He was unable to post the $10,000 bail.
Northern Lancaster County police were called to the auto auction in Penn Township at 6:30 a.m. Saturday for a report of man driving recklessly through the property. When police arrived, they were told Witherspoon drove a car through a closed security checkpoint.
At some point, police said he parked the Hyundai that he drove into the lot and switched to a red Subaru RX. He drove that vehicle to a ramp and parked it. He then gained access to a Nissan Altima, which is when police caught up with him.
Police said Witherspoon was acting erratic and talking to himself, appeared irritable, confused and paranoid. Police observed a syringe on his lap. The arresting officer found a small amount of suspected crystal methamphetamine, syringes and a container of medical marijuana.
Additional charges are anticipated, police said.
