MANISTEE — The Armory Youth Project was recently awarded a gift of $2,800 from Parkdale Auto Sales & Service of Manistee.

The Armory's mission is to provide a safe environment where young people in grades 6-12 can build community and be encouraged in their educational, emotional, physical and Christian spiritual development.

The contribution was part of Parkdale Auto's October Charity of the Month event, during which it offers a selected nonprofit a $100 match for every car sold during the month.

“It’s not what we do, it’s what else we do,” said Tyler Reed in a news release. “Rather than spend money for advertising on a billboard, we choose to get our name out there by donating money to help our communities, which is roughly around $45,000 annually.”

Amy Wojciechowski, Armory Youth Project executive director, was thrilled to hear that the Armory was selected by Parkdale Auto for their Charity of the Month event.

“The Armory is funded 90% by donations and 10% by grants and we are very thankful for their support, as well as all of our donors’ support. This donation will go toward covering the costs of our after-school programming,” Wojciechowski said in the release. “With the input from students and parents, we’ve added additional programs targeted at teaching life skills such as cooking and meal planning and financial acumen with Junior Achievement — all are targeted at helping out youth develop and grow.”
