Stavros Karelis‘ concept store Machine-A and Byronesque, which is headed up by Gill Linton, came together this morning for the launch of “Machine-B,” a new approach to retail that brings rare vintage and archival designer goods into the same space as Machine-A’s usual roster of talent. However, alongside rarities from Rick Owens, Maison Martin Margiela, and As Four, comes two incredibly rare pieces, and arguably the stand outs of the capsule: two Raf Simons bomber jackets from his emblematic and iconoclastic Fall/Winter 2001 runway show, “Riot! Riot! Riot!”.
These jackets came in a handful of forms and have, in one way or another, been worn by the likes of Drake in his “Toosie Slide” music video and Kanye West. One example sold for a record of $47,000 USD on Grailed back in 2018, and of course, the iconic design language has inspired others to recreate the piece in their own eyes.
Now, Machine-A and Byronesque bring you two iterations to choose from. First is the most iconic bomber jacket of them all, the camo piece in gray and white with patches that referenced counter-culture trends that inspired the FW01 runway. This particular piece is described as being “new as unworn,” which only makes it rarer, and comes in the quintessential oversized Raf Simons cut, so it should accommodate anyone who buys it.
The second piece is from the same runway collection, but is the less desirable — if we’re even allowed to say that — camo bomber with the skirt. Served in a green-toned camouflage, this piece is also “new as unworn.”
Machine-A has the first piece listed for $35,200 USD — considerably less than the supposed resale market price. The latter costs $12,200 USD. Both can be seen above and bought from Machine-A’s “Machine-B” capsule online and in-store upon request.
