There is no accounting for what law enforcement might find when a crime is reported. Such was the case when a forced-entry burglary at an auto parts store in north Fayette had only Peanut M&M’s stolen or when several autos were entered at a storage facility, with the loot found sitting on the ground next to the vehicles.

Fayette County deputies on Dec. 5 at 1:50 a.m. responded to an alarm call at the Auto Zone store on Ga. Highway 314.

Deputies arriving at the scene found that the glass front door had been shattered, said Sheriff Barry Babb.

The manager was contacted and arrived, informing deputies that nothing appeared to have been stolen, with the exception of Peanut M&M’s candy, Babb said.

Deputies on Dec. 3 responded to a burglary call at a residence on Hwy. 314 in north Fayette. Meeting with the property representative, deputies learned that one of the doors had been forced open.

The representative noted that items in the house had been strewn about, though nothing appeared to have been stolen, Babb said.

A similar outcome was noted when deputies on Dec. 3 responded to a burglary call at a residence on Longview Road off Hwy. 314.

The homeowner said the front door had been left unlocked, but returned to find a window shattered. Furniture and clothing were strewn about the house but nothing was reported stolen, said Babb.

Another burglary at a residence on Hwy. 314 was reported on Dec. 5. Babb said the front door had been kicked-in and a television was stolen.

In another case, occurring on Dec. 6 at SecurCare Self Storage on Ga. Highway 54 East, deputies met with the property manager who said several vehicles in the rear parking area had been entered.

One of the vehicles was a pickup that had a rear window broken. Babb said a tool box was found sitting next to a rear tire.

Another vehicle was found to have a front window broken. Placed on the ground next to the car was a car jack and a can of WD-40, Babb said.

Also on the property, another pickup had a door pried open, though nothing was stolen, Babb said.

The final item on the report was that of a transport trailer with a door that had been pried open. Music equipment and CDs were found on the ground next to a rear tire, Babb noted.

Babb said deputies found a hole in the fence surrounding the property.
