HOBOKEN — Now, instead of snacks and drinks, personal protective equipment can be vended from machines.
On Friday afternoon, a PPE vending machine was installed at the Hoboken Terminal, provided by RapidMask2Go. Face masks, hand sanitizer, sanitized wipes and disposable gloves can be purchased at these machines.
“We want our customers to trust that we have prepared the safest and cleanest transit system possible for their return and will continue to work hard every day to keep it that way,” said NJ TRANSIT President and CEO Kevin Corbett in a statement.
Customers can buy a single 3-ply disposable face mask for $1 or a 10-pack of KN95 masks for $25. Reusable fashion masks will also be sold. The PPE machines are managed and stocked by a third-party vendor.
Soon, 10 other NJ TRANSIT stations will also have the options, including the Secaucus Junction.
Machines will accept cash or credit cards, and all will be available until the end of the year.
Gov. Phil Murphy’s Executive Order 165 requires all staff and customers to wear face coverings while on transit vehicles and inside all stations and facilities. Masks are also required on train platforms and bus stops when distancing is not possible.
RapidMask2Go was launched on May 1 and founded by David Edelman, who bought a vending machine off Craigslist.
