The 2021 Chicago Auto Show, originally slated to take place in February, has been postponed — hopefully to take place in April or May.
“It’s postponed until we can get clearance from the state and city health departments, until we can have a safe and responsible show,” said Mark Bilek, director of communications for the Chicago Automobile Trade Association, which produces the Chicago Auto Show.
The show had been scheduled to take place between Feb. 13 and Feb. 21.
“We’re hoping to get it done in the spring of 2021, April or May, perhaps,” Bilek told the Sun-Times on Monday, noting that the change in plans was posted to the auto show’s website last month.
“It’s just a wait and see kind of situation where we need to make sure not only that the show is safe but also that people are willing to go to a show...if people are still afraid to go outside and gather then you can’t do that either,” he said.
A widely distributed vaccine or a major drop in positive case numbers would aid the endeavor, he said.
Bilek said the plan is to ideally space the country’s major auto shows — held in Chicago, Los Angeles, New York and Detroit — several months apart.
