Antique Auto Day: Sock Hop, Soda Pops & Whistle Stops at Boothbay Railway Village Museum - Boothbay Register

The Railway Village Museum will continue its celebration of Maine’s 201st birthday this Saturday, July 17 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The 1950s’ themed event will feature Antique Autos, Root Beer Floats, and a Sock Hop!

Happy Days are Here Again! Museum attendees will enjoy a vibrant scene on the four-acre village green, featuring a Vintage Car Show, a Sock Hop with the Murky Water Band, Root Beer Floats with Blanchard’s Creamery Vanilla Ice Cream, Burgers and Beers, and more! Come dressed in 1950s’ attire for free museum admission (food and beverage not included with admission ticket). Event rain date is July 18.

The event is hosted in partnership with The Maine Obsolete Auto League (MOAL). Established in 1948, the {MOAL} grew into four chapters; Aroostook Region in 1956, Seacoast Region in 1963, Paul Bunyan Region in 1964 and the Dirigo Region in 1965.​ Antique Auto entries are welcome at the event as detailed:

Antique Auto entry details: (MOAL) Auto entry (includes admission for two) = $10 | train rides offered for additional $5 pp; Non MOAL Auto entry (includes admission for 2) = $15. Auto Entry proceeds to benefit The Boothbay Railway Village Antique Auto Museum

Additional event information: Festivities will also include standard favorites; train rides, hands-on exploration, and dozens of exhibits throughout the 35-acre property, as well as new features this year, a virtual touring app, and the Iron Horse Antiques and General Store. Event times as follows:

10 a.m. to 5 p.m.: Vintage Car Show, All Museum exhibits, lawn games, food and beverage available for purchase, shopping at Iron Horse Antiques & General Store

Noon to 3 p.m.: Murky Water Band;

1 to 3 p.m.: Root Beer Floats available for purchase (while supplies last).

About the Maine 201 Featured Exhibit: This celebratory exhibit has been in the construction stage for several months; and will be on display at the museum through Aug. 1. Led by the museum’s Director of Curation and Education, Dr. Whitney Lytle, the exhibit is a collaboration between the Railway Village Museum and other statewide historic institutions. The exhibit features artifacts from the Railway Village collection, as well as those on loan from partners, representing individuals and families who contributed to the fabric of our state’s past 200 years.
