A cold chain is designed for the safe delivery of perishable products including meats, vegetables, and ready-to-eat meal packs. The delivery chain requires refrigerated systems that consist of warehouses equipped with freezers and refrigerator trucks. Trucks will be modified to have refrigerating capabilities.
Hyundai said in a statement on July 18 that the company partnered with Team Fresh, a domestic logistics service company, to demonstrate the urban delivery service using electric trucks. The three-month demonstration using four trucks will begin in Gangnam District, the heart of Seoul's finance and fashion, in late July to test charging infrastructure and an integrated logistics solution.
Team Fresh will provide manpower and a management solution. "We will popularize the use of electric vehicles as we predict the needs for delivery service will increase in the future," an unnamed Hyundai official was quoted as saying. The carmaker will expand its partnership with other retailers and adopt autonomous delivery vehicles in the future.
