Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is seeking refunds of auto insurance fees, arguing a $5 billion surplus accumulated by the Michigan Catastrophic Claims Association should be returned to Michigan drivers.
In a Monday statement, Whitmer said the MCCA — a statutorily-established nonprofit that all auto insurers pay into for personal injury protection under the state’s auto no-fault system — currently boasts a surplus of more than $5 billion “and should be put in people’s pockets immediately with a refund check.”
