Angry and frustrated, that's how some Lincoln residents feel after their vehicles were stolen.Police say they are investigating 60 stolen autos in the last three weeks and 27 attempted thefts."Obviously, you feel angry. I mean, obviously, that's the way I get — angry. I mean, and then I want some accountability," Jesse Bergman said. His wife's SUV was stolen from their southwest Lincoln Home early Sunday morning. A neighbor's home security camera captured two people casing out cars in driveways around 2:30 a.m."We had keys in the ignition, and so they jumped in and took it," Bergman said.Later that morning, Bergman was able to track their vehicle with an app. They found it abandoned about four miles away.It had only minor damage to the front left fender."We are one of the lucky ones. According to the police, a lot of times, the thieves are taking them and going on joyrides and playing bumper cars with another stolen vehicle. And those vehicles are getting totaled out," Bergman said. That may have happened to one of his employees' cars, which was stolen last week.The front end is smashed, the windshield is broken and airbags were deployed. "Obviously, that's a big disruption in somebody's life, right? And just so somebody can go do something kind of ridiculous, quite honest," Bergman said.Lincoln police say they've recovered 47 vehicles so far, but no arrests yet."We continue to work to investigate the rash of auto thefts and the attempts that are occurring throughout Lincoln. There appears to be no centralized location," Lincoln police Sgt. Chris Vollmer said.He said 21 of the cars have been Kias or Hyundais. KETV Investigates has reported about how a manufacturer's flaw makes some models vulnerable to theft."If you own a key or handy and have not received the anti-theft protection software update for your vehicle, please contact your dealer to do so," Vollmer said.Bergman said they'll lock their car from now on and take their keys and valuables out.They also installed security cameras."I've lived here my whole life and always felt safe.
