FORT COLLINS, Colo. — Fort Collins Police are investigating an auto-pedestrian crash that left a man dead Wednesday night.

At about 7:28 p.m., officers were notified of the crash that happened in the 4600 block of South College Avenue, according to police.

When officers arrived, they found a man in the roadway with serious injuries, police said. The man was later pronounced dead from his injuries, police said in a release.

According to police, a 2008 white Chevrolet work van was driving southbound on College Avenue when it hit the man who was crossing from the east side of the street to the west side. The man was not in a crosswalk and was wearing dark colored clothing when the crash happened, police said.

The Fort Collins Police Collision Reconstruction and Scene Handling Team (CRASH) responded to the scene to take over the investigation. Southbound College Avenue was closed between Harmony Road and South Mason Street for about four hours while investigators were on scene, according to police.

“This is an unfortunate event that will have a long-lasting impact on multiple people involved," said Sergeant Mike Avrech who oversees the Fort Collins Police CRASH Team. "We ask that pedestrians utilize crosswalks for their safety, especially on roadways where the speed limits are higher.”

Anyone with information about the crash, who has not already talked with officers, please contact Officer Philip Morris at 970-221-6540.
