CLEVELAND, Ohio – Not long after Chris Ronayne announced his candidacy for Cuyahoga County executive, it appears one of the area’s most influential power brokers began shopping for a Democratic challenger.
Bill Mason, the former county prosecutor and a leader of what many consider the “old guard” of the Cuyahoga County Democratic Party, first called members of the executive committee weighing support of a third term for his boss, Armond Budish, according to people who received the calls. Then, when it became apparent Budish had lost favor, Mason started searching for a successor.
