Crews were on scene of a fire at Hauger's Automative Services in Stoystown for several hours early Saturday morning, emergency officials said.
According to deputy chief for Shanksville Volunteer Fire Department John Abramowich, the call came in around 2:30 a.m.
The owner of the shop Robert Hauger said he and his wife Laura saw the fire from their bedroom window after they were woken up in their nearby home to the sound of a smoke detector going off.
"Just devastating you know. You can't believe it. I looked out my bedroom window and I could see the flames are already up through the roof," Hauger said.
He said the business has been around for the last 50 years.
Emergency officials said that the building was fully involved in the fire by the time crews had arrived on scene.
"Approximately 140,000 gallons of water were shuttled and used on this fire," Abramowich said. "It was hard with the wind and six automobiles inside plus multiple hazmat's burning very hot and we had to bring an excavator in to pull the building apart to get the fire extinguished."
Officials stated that it took several hours to put out the blaze, with crews clearing the scene around 7 a.m.
The building was deemed a total loss, as well as several cars that were inside the shop at the time.
According to emergency officials a state police fire marshal was on scene Saturday investigating. No injuries were reported as a result of the fire.
The Shanksville Volunteer Fire Department, as well as departments from Central City, Stoystown, Sipesville, Somerset, Listie, Friedens, and Berlin all assisted during the incident. EMS from Stoystown and Berlin also responded.
