Here's the interior of the 2025 Hyundai Tucson

The biggest changes to the 2025 Hyundai Tucson are on the inside. It features a new dash with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a new (OTA-capable) 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system running Hyundai’s latest software. All trims feature wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto.

Higher trims will also get a new column-mounted gear selector we’ve seen implemented in other Hyundai products for more center console space. A new wireless phone charger is said to offer improved performance, and the USB-C ports offer faster charging speeds.

A larger 12-inch color HUD will be available, and a new biometric authenticator can be used to start the car up without a key fob. Hyundai’s Digital Key 2 tech is also present, which allows for locking, unlocking and engine start via your phone’s presence – it also allows you to easily share temporary access to the car from one phone to another.

Live from New York, it's (not Saturday night...) the Kia K4!

I really like the Kia K4. It looks upscale and sporty compared to the Forte. Design can make a difference, and electrics like the EV9 SUV and EV6 crossover cut through cluttered segments with attractive styling. Kia continues that with the K4. It’s ice-powered, but it continues the brand’s design mojo generated by its recent EVs. Those flared fenders in the back give it an old-school muscle car vibe, while the T-shaped headlights in front point to the future. Well done. — Greg Migliore

Here's more of the 2025 Hyundai Santa Cruz

I’ve always liked the Hyundai Santa Cruz. It’s a bit of a sleeper in the small truck segment. Like the Tucson, it’s refreshed for ‘24 with an updated interior — with knobs and buttons — and a new grille. The headliner is the XRT model with 18-inch wheels, a different grille and red tow hooks. Yes, the wheels are supposed to look like wrenches. I just drove the Ford Maverick Tremor a couple of weeks ago that came in around $40 grand with options. It will be interesting to see where the Santa Cruz XRT lands. — Greg Migliore

2025 Hyundai Tucson refreshed at NY Auto Show

Here's the sharply chiseled exterior of the newly refreshed 2025 Hyundai Tucson. The covers were just pulled off the vehicle live in New York.

The updated Tucson gets a new grille, fresh bumpers and a new daytime running light look with larger lighting areas than before.

Hyundai’s powertrain options are largely carryover, though the Hybrid gets a slight boost with a more powerful electric motor, giving it a total system output of 231 horses and 258 pound-feet of torque. The base engine is still the 2.5-liter four-cylinder that produces 187 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque, while the most powerful version continues to be the PHEV with 268 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque.

A new “Baby Mode” joins the various drive modes for 2025, too, and Hyundai says it “helps reduce the sharpness of initial acceleration, smoothing out driver inputs for a gentler acceleration feeling for passengers.”

The big XRT upgrade is the addition of 245/60R all-terrain tires wrapping trim-specific 18-inch “wrench-inspired” wheels. An XRT-exclusive front bumper improves the approach angle, and Hyundai also adds front tow hooks for off-road recovery.

Both of the Santa Cruz’s powertrains carry over unchanged for 2025, but the 2.5-turbo upgrade adds a tow mode to its drive mode selection for both the Limited and XRT trims – maximum capacity is still 5,000 pounds for the Turbo.

Weighty topics are hanging over the car biz

On the eve of the New York Auto Show, a number of weighty topics are hanging over the car biz. First and foremost, the nation’s busiest port of entry for new vehicles — Baltimore — is recovering after a 984-foot Singapore flagged container vessel called Dali rammed the Francis Scott Key Bridge, collapsing the structure. Multiple people were still missing as of Tuesday afternoon.

BALTIMORE, MARYLAND - MARCH 26: The cargo ship Dali sits in the water after running into and collapsing the Francis Scott Key Bridge on March 26, 2024 in Baltimore, Maryland. According to reports, rescuers are still searching for multiple people, while two survivors have been pulled from the Patapsco River. A work crew was fixing potholes on the bridge, which is used by roughly 30,000 people each day, when the ship struck at around 1:30am on Tuesday morning. Before the nation awoke to the startling news this morning, the car world has been buzzing over the future of EVs, with questions of price, infrastructure and politics coloring the discussion. EVs are hovering around 8 percent of the market, but the next stage of growth remains uncertain. As the press takes to the floor of Javits this week, AI will also take center stage as automakers ponder its uses and potential implications. — Editor-in-chief Greg Migliore

Genesis GV80 Magma... apparently not coming to the U.S.

The Genesis GV60 Magma isn't the only hot new car on the way. The GV80 Magma gets a similar treatment with a wide body kit, larger grilles and even some extra hood vents.

Genesis GV80 Magma at the NY Auto Show

    Joel Stocksdale / Autoblog

The whole car is lowered with very tight wheel arch gaps, and it has the same brightly painted seats. Sadly, it's an extremely limited-run vehicle. Genesis didn't say how many it would produce, but they'll only be available to Middle Eastern markets.

  • Jeremy Korzeniewski

Genesis GV60 Magma at the NY Auto Show

Liquid hot magma? Well, not really. But it's still pretty hot, and it's definitely orange like lava. Genesis used the 2024 NY Auto Show to reveal its new Magna performance line, starting with the electric GV60. It will be the first of the Magma cars to launch globally, and not as a limited-run vehicle.

Genesis GV60 Magma at the 2024 NY Auto Show

    Joel Stocksdale / Autoblog

Yes, it is coated in a vivid orange paint that continues to the painted seat backs and double-diamond contrast stitching, but there's more to it than that. The GV60 Magna gets wider fender flares, larger grilles and vents for battery and powertrain cooling, and canards, fins and a rear wing for improved downforce and stability. Even the wheels have claimed aerodynamic benefit, with the covers diverting air to cool the brakes.

We expect a lot of horsepower sent to all four wheels and a sport-tuned suspension.

Genesis Neolun Concept debuts ahead of NY Auto Show debut

This here is the Genesis Neolun Concept. It's a large, flagship luxury SUV, as you can see. But more than that, the Neolun previews a production model and offers hints at where Genesis design is headed.

There are some cool details here. The Neolun features rear coach doors, similar to those on the Lincoln Continental Coach Door Edition, and Genesis notes that this might be a feature that actually makes it to production. The interior may be the coolest part, though, with purple cashmere and leather, seats that swivel to face rearward, and an enormous flexible screen that rolls and unrolls as needed.

Kia K4 will replace the Forte sedan

One exciting new vehicle that we saw make an early debut at the NY Auto Show is the Kia K4. This small car will replace the Kia Forte, and it'll do so with a newfound sense of style.

There's still a lot we don't know about the new Kia K4, so stay tuned. We'll share all the details as soon as we get them.

Oh, and get a load of that green and highly asymmetrical interior!
