They took a gamble on each other and on their careers, now this Michigan couple is taking on television’s biggest slot machine. It’s the premiere of “Cherries Wild” on FOX where $250,000 is up for grabs.

Javier Reed is from Inkster and Sha’Tarra La’Nay is from Romulus. The two are playing for a quarter million dollars on the game show which features two rounds of pop culture trivia. At the end of the half-hour episode, they will spin the reels on the giant slot machine in hopes of getting all five wild cherries. They say it was a dream to be on a game show.
“It was so dreamy. I never thought I would be on national TV trying to win money,” La’Nay told MLive. “When you walk on the set, you’re like, this is so surreal. This is truly happening. I just feel so grateful that we were able to do it.”
La’Nay and Reed said host Jason Biggs of “American Pie” and “Orange is the New Black” fame helped take away their nerves by not only being a very professional host, but a down to earth person.
“Both of us were truly excited to be on the game show, but at the same time, excited to just be able to meet Biggs,” said an enthusiastic Reed. “Both of us watched “American Pie” prior to going on the show knowing we were going to meet him. When you’re next to him, you realize you’re not only dealing with a professional, but a regular guy and he was just so down to earth and so funny.”
Reed and La’Nay both already say they hit the jackpot when they met each other at a party. A party Reed says he didn’t even want to attend.
“We are going on three years of marriage in May. We met at a Floyd Mayweather fight party in 2014. It was a small apartment party which was supposed to be a girls’ night and they weren’t expecting me and my buddies. I actually voted against going to the party, but got out voted. I walked in and remember seeing my now wife and saying this party wasn’t such a bad idea.”

The couple now lives in West Hollywood, California where they are pursuing their dreams. La’Nay is the founder of the Shatarra La’Nay clothing line and Reed, a graduate of Specs Howard in Southfield, works at Quicken Loans and is pursuing a rap career.
“The reason I moved out to Los Angeles was for music. I rap and my wife has her clothing line. That’s our big dreams.”
The couple says while they love living in California, they do miss Michigan, especially in the fall.
“We try to go home a few times a year. Home is where the heart is,” said La’Nay. “Obviously we miss family and friends, but we love the fall,” added Reed. “I mean, in Los Angeles, it does get cool, but you literally just wake up and throw on whatever and walk out the door. We miss layering up with the seasons changing and the leaves changing colors. I wouldn’t trade this transition for anything, though.”
