Dayton Police Department has issued a short statement regarding a fatal auto-pedestrian accident that took place Monday evening, March 8, on FM 1409 south of Dayton. The department has received criticism for officers dropping off the victim at a convenience store hours before the fatal accident.
The statement reads: “On April 8, 2024, at approximately 9:30 p.m., officers with the Dayton Police Department encountered a 56-year-old white male, later identified as Scott Lee Holladay, walking on FM 1409. Officers observed that Mr. Holladay was walking with a limp and stopped to check on his welfare. Mr. Holiday appeared to be coherent, of sound mind, and not a danger to himself or anyone else.”
Holladay reportedly told officers that he was traveling to see a friend who lives along FM 1409.
“Officers attempted to give Mr. Holladay a courtesy ride to his friend’s home but while en route they were advised that he was not welcomed at that residence. Officers attempted multiple times to provide Mr. Holladay with a ride to the police department or another location at which time Mr. Holladay refused the ride.”
Mr. Holladay reportedly exited the officer’s vehicle at a convenience store in Liberty County off of FM 1409 at his request. Unfortunately, a short time later, he was struck by a vehicle on FM 1409 where he was pronounced deceased on scene.
