This year is the 75th year of racing at the Oxford Plains Speedway in Oxford, Maine's premiere short-track racing facility.The Speedway, with a 3/8 miles asphalt oval, is also the largest spectator sporting facility in the state, with a capacity of over 14,000 people.For years, the track has been known for the Oxford 250, considered the biggest stock car race in the state and known as America's Biggest Little Race. The 250 celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2023. This year, the Speedway is adding a second signature race. The first All That's Metal Celebration of America 300 is scheduled for July 2 and 3, with racers speeding around the track for 300 laps. The race will offer nearly $140,000 in total purse money, making it one of the richest asphalt short track races in America. The winner will get $40,000, a bigger payout than the winner of the Oxford 250, which is scheduled for Aug. 23-25.The Celebration of America 300 is already attracting some big attention.Two-time NASCAR Cup Champion Kyle Busch of Richard Childress Racing has officially entered the field as entry number 41. "A few of us have been talking about doing this race with Kyle for a couple of months now," former Cup owner Archie St. Hilaire said. "Kyle loves competing at Oxford Plains Speedway, and we were finally able to get the right combination of people involved to make it happen."This is not Busch's first time racing in Oxford. He won the 38th TD Bank 250 in 2012. That was his third time running the race.Busch is not the only NASCAR driver planning to be there. Daniel Hemric, the 2021 Xfinity series champion and current driver of the number 31 Cup series car for Kaulig Racing, has also entered the field as entry 4."We are very happy to welcome Daniel back to Oxford Plains Speedway," PASS President Tom Mayberry said. "Last time he was here around 10 years ago, he showed a lot of speed. He will be a great addition to the race."Hemric is a six-time winner on the PASS South Tour and competed in the 2014 Oxford 250, where he finished 24th. The following season, he advanced into the NASCAR Truck Series. The field also includes Andrew "Bubba" Pollard from Senoia, Georgia, who will race in both the Celebration of America 300 and the Oxford 250. He won the 250 in 2018 and has returned each year since.Other names in the field of more than 40 entries include Johnny Clark, Derek Griffith, and the King of Oxford, Mike Rowe. The two days of racing will also include the New England Super Modified Series racing for 100 laps and $10,000 to win along with other support divisions.
