GREEN BAY (WLUK) -- For the 36th year in a row, the Northeast Wisconsin Technical College Auto Club car show drew car enthusiasts and curious minds alike to campus.
The show, which is hosted entirely by students in the Auto Club program, featured more than 800 vehicles and welcomed between 5,000 and 6,000 people to browse the prized possessions of hundreds of Northeast Wisconsinites.
Every dollar raised at the show goes directly back to the Auto Club program, and organizers say it helps fund scholarships, testing, and education field trips for students.
At the show, organizers say there's something for everyone.
"We have eight different sections the vehicles can be in, but it comes from just about any make and model that you can see out there, we have mild to wild coming in here," says Brent Westland, a first-year auto instructor at NWTC. "Modern sport compact, all the way back to some Model Ts, Corvette class, Mustangs, everything like that coming through here."
Westlund and students say the show isn't just about raising funds for the program, though. It's also about giving back.
The program was gifted a 2014 Jeep Cherokee, and students say it needed a lot of work.
"We did front brakes, rear brakes, rear wheel bearings, we did wipers on it, spark plugs, you name it, we probably did it," says Garrett Simonar, a second-year student in the program.
Once fixed, the program then donated the Jeep to the Ecumenical Partnership for Housing in Green Bay.
Simonar says it was a win-win; they got to learn and put their skills to the test while helping out a worthy organization in the community.
